why is my pumpkin plant climbing up a nearby tree
this might surprise you because its not a usual practice but all pumpkins grow on vines, which makes them all want to climb up and get higher and higher
this is ok for little decorative/whatever small pumpkins because they are light and usually dont snap under their weight, but big large pumpkins (over 10 pounds) snap off most of the time. Small pumpkins growing up above the ground help prevent rot, while growing them on the ground makes them lower maintenence and helps grow stronger roots.
i have grown pumpkins for a very long time but only this year did it try to climb up a tree which surprised me greatly
if you dont want them to climb up its usually enough to just go over and put the vine on the ground i hope this helps .
