I don't really understand how the website works
The title says it: I don't really get how to use the website. For example, how do we send messages to friends and stuff? If anyone could explain, that would be nice.

You cannot send direct messages to friends. This site is mostly meant for developers using the extension, so you'll likely find the 'social' side of things lacking. Many games host their communities on Discord and/or GameJolt, you'll likely find what you're looking for on there.
